ARTIST APPLIES CREATIVITY AND LOVE FOR COOKING TO KITCHEN DESIGN
ST. PETERSBURG, FL, December 15, 2009 -- Dorothy Mainella loves animals, cooking, and the outdoors. But she was born an artist.
Originally from New York, she moved to Florida and calls St. Petersburg home. She says she has dabbled in just about every type of artwork. Some of her premier projects over the years have included glass art, murals, drawings, and even hand-painted floors for clients including Hilton hotels, Morton Plant Hospital, All Children’s Hospital, the Symphony, the Powell Cancer Center, Designer Showcase, and HGTV. She has also donated her time and skill to the St. Petersburg Centennial Ball, All Children’s Hospital balls, and other events in the Tampa Bay area.
Her work has been featured in national publications and has won more than one award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
Remodeling? Yes, remodeling. Dorothy Mainella is an expert space planner and kitchen and bath designer, and all of her designs are hand-drawn to the finest detail. Her perspectives are well representative of each and every space.
She has been a designer since the 1960s, eventually going back to architectural school, and then throwing herself full force into kitchen and bath design in the 90s. She has recently joined J&B Fine Cabinetry in St. Petersburg and is offering her experience and combined love for art, design, space planning, and cooking to create beautiful, functional kitchens for clients.
‘The kitchen is the center of the home,’ she says. ‘It should be interesting and comfortable, but it should also be functional and convenient to meet the client’s specific needs.’
Bill Parr, president of J&B Fine Cabinetry, is thrilled she has joined his team. ‘Dorothy is a great designer. She is truly talented in design and space planning and she loves creating fresh, new ideas from contemporary to traditional.’
Dorothy is happy to be with J&B and says she could work all day long, as her job provides her with creative freedom. Her goal is not just creativity, though. It is to aid her clients with their space design by uncovering what it is they’re looking for, asking how they will use the space, making suggestions for solutions they may not be aware of especially relating to convenience, and ensuring the design is a good fit with the home as a whole.
‘Some people prefer their designs to be around the ultimate appearance of the space, which I can definitely accomplish for them,’ she says. ‘But I love what I do and I want to create spaces where families find enjoyment, beautiful and functional spaces that can enhance spending time in the heart of the home and perhaps take some of the everyday mundaneness out of cooking and elevate it to being a creative art in itself.’
